Start Your Day with Positive Thinking & Watch Your Life Change
When it comes to your perspective, if it’s always negative, then this will impact your career and your life. Negative thoughts have a way of seeping into your mood and attitude, affecting areas like productivity and work habits. Not only will your performance take a hit, but the way your boss, co-workers, family, and friends see you won’t be in the best light.
How can you make a change for the better? Here are some tips to start your day with.
How Are You Starting Your Day?
Set the tone for your whole day.
If you wake up and reach for your phone, checking emails or the news, you’re not going to get off on the best foot each day. Instead, spend some time with inspirational thoughts and ideas, whether it’s reading a motivational book to ease into your day or listening to an inspirational podcast while you’re getting ready for work. Even just reading a motivational quote and reflecting on it for a few minutes can make a big change in the way you begin each day.
Focus on what you’re grateful for.
It’s easy to think about all your problems. However, what about all the positive aspects in your life? Gratitude will give you good feelings and refocus your mind on the present, rather than worrying about the future or wallowing in the past. So, each morning, aim to write down three things you’re grateful for and why. You can’t be negative when you’re busy being thankful.
Keep positive people around you.
If you have people in your life who are toxic, either limit the time you spend with them or cut them out of your life. Instead, spend more time with those naturally positive people and can help you keep perspective. You’ll not only stay on track toward remaining healthy and happy but boost your quality of life in the process.
Stop negative self-talk.
You would never talk to a loved one the way you talk to yourself. Unfortunately, we’re our own worst critics. But there’s no reason to beat yourself up. Even if you made a mistake or aren’t where you want to be in your career, negative self-talk won’t help at all. In fact, it can make you feel worse. Turn your mind around from, “I’m so dumb, I can’t believe I did that” to something positive like, “That didn’t work out, but I’m going to learn from it and try again.”
No one is perfect, and the reality is that we learn more from our mistakes than our successes most times. But don’t dwell on them in a way that depresses you. Instead, evaluate them to find out where you went wrong and pull lessons from them. This is how you will grow in your work and your life.
Also, be patient with yourself. If you’re a born pessimist, then it’s going to take some time to change the way you think. However, a few small shifts like those above can get you on track toward self-acceptance and success.
