Avoid the Sunday Blues by Getting a Job You Love

With the weekend quickly receding, does your mood go down the tubes with it? If this sounds familiar, there is a better way to live. When you have a job you love, Sundays won’t be such a drag. Instead, they’ll become just another day in the week that doesn’t take an emotional toll on you. Here are some tips to help you get there:

Look for the right job.

Don’t hop on the local job boards in search of a position you already have when you really don’t like it that much. Just because you change employers doesn’t mean your situation will improve. Instead, take the time to first determine the kind of job that will be right for you. Take a career quiz, hire a job coach or do some extra research online in search of positions that are truly the right match for you.

Find out what an employer is really like.

In today’s world, with social media, it’s easy to get the inside scoop about a particular company you’re interested in. For example, you can use sites like LinkedIn to see if you know anyone who works there, and then reach out to them for details. Ask them for the highs and lows of working for the company and even if they’d be willing to refer you to a position.

Interview the hiring manager.

When it comes time to interview for a particular position, make sure you’re also spending time developing a list of questions for the hiring manager. It’s completely appropriate, and expected, that you ask your own questions, so you can best assess whether the opportunity is the right fit for you. If you are offered the job, ask to meet the team you’ll be working with first so you can get a better sense of whether it’s what you’re looking for.

Assess every opportunity.

When you’re offered a job, it’s both exciting and flattering. But before you sign on the dotted line, make sure it’s truly right for you. Think not only about what you know about the position, but the culture and company leadership, too.  There’s no such thing as the perfect job. However, when you take the time to follow the tips above, your chances of finding the right opening are much greater.
